Abstract:
For 30 years Ernst Schober is involved in instrumentation and control. In this interview he talks about how functional safety influences the daily business of the instrumentation and control department. He explains how safety is addressed by OMV and how it has developed over time, not only in Austria but also in Germany. Standards and guidelines like IEC 61508, IEC 61511, VDI 2180 and NAMUR are discussed and whether safety has actually improved over time or not due to all these guidelines and regulations. At last challenges related to safety instrumented systems are discussed as they still exist today. The interview starts with the following question about OMV.
