SCHAUMBURG, IL (July 19, 2010) – Omron Industrial Automation (www.Omron247.com) announces the Safety Certification for 3G3MX2 AC Drives, open loop control drives with built-in safety inputs and external device monitoring output, that allows machine designers to integrate the drives into new or existing safety systems with less hardware and simpler wiring. The 3G3MX2 AC Drives series is equipped with an array of advanced functionality including 200% at 0.5 Hz, positioning control, simple network configuration with built-in Modbus communications.

The powerful 3G3MX2 AC drives series easily integrates into safety systems while reducing the hardware and installation costs. Safety embedded features eliminate the requirement for a redundant dual contactor set-up at the output of the Drive, meaning simpler wiring for the user. The built-in safety function is certified in accordance to EN60204-1 Stop Category 0 (Safe torque off), meaning that the safety circuit will override all other functions and power to the equipment shall be immediately removed. By directly connecting the drive to an Omron NE1A safety controller ensures compliance to ISO 13849-1, Cat 3. The 3G3MX2 also provides an External Device Monitoring (EDM) output that confirms the safety status of the AC Drive, saving the cost of wiring external devices to carry out the same task. “Omron continues to focus on improving machine control and overall productivity by integrating functions that protect machine operators and their equipment while reducing overall machine cost.” noted Kevin O’Connor, VP Sales.

Fueling the trend to incorporate safety with AC Drives is the recognition that power electronics are faster than conventional contactors; therefore, reaction time is faster. Many local safety authorities now require safety embedded products. By eliminating external contactors that are no longer required, there is a further savings in installation and material, and less to troubleshoot. Typical applications for AC Drives with safety functionality include conveyor systems, industrial mixers, extruders and many more.
